Around 1880, a British military school was founded in Freiburg. Young men between 16 and 20 years were prepared for their service as an infantry officer. Freiburg students observed the hitherto unknown sports. As for football no special equipment is needed, this sport could be easily replayed. The first football club was founded in Freiburg "Nägelesee". It was more of a loose association of students of several schools in Freiburg as a club in the modern sense.
